Intrado Emergency Communications Tools Become Available Through Public-Sector Contracts

Intrado and Carahsoft Technology Corp. have entered a distribution agreement that makes Intrado’s emergency communications and notification products available through several public-sector contract vehicles.

Carahsoft will act as Intrado’s master government aggregator and provide the products through reseller partners. Eligible federal, state and local agencies, educational institutions and public-safety organizations can purchase the offerings through NASA’s Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement V contract, NASPO ValuePoint and OMNIA Partners.

The partnership expands procurement access to products that support 911 call routing, location information and emergency notification. It does not identify a new agency deployment or document operational results from a particular implementation.

Intrado’s Emergency Routing Service is intended to send a 911 call to the appropriate public-safety answering point and provide dispatchable location information. That function is especially important in large government offices, campuses and facilities where a telephone number may not reveal the caller’s building, floor or room.

The service is designed to support compliance with Kari’s Law and Section 506 of RAY BAUM’S Act. Kari’s Law generally requires multi-line telephone systems to allow direct dialing of 911 and provide notification when an emergency call is placed. Federal dispatchable-location rules are intended to give responders information that can help them find a caller more quickly.

Connecting location, routing and notification

The product set also includes Emergency Gateway and PSAP Link, which support connections between enterprise communications systems and public-safety networks. Intrado’s OneAlert platform provides mass notification across channels such as voice calls, text messages, desktop alerts and mobile devices, with options to connect other safety systems.

For a government facility or school system, the combined approach could link an emergency call with location data and distribute instructions to employees, students or responders. Potential settings include government campuses, K-12 districts, colleges, health facilities and emergency-management operations.

Access through widely used purchasing vehicles can reduce the time required to locate a reseller and establish contract terms. SEWP V serves federal technology buyers, while NASPO ValuePoint and OMNIA Partners provide cooperative purchasing options used by state, local and education customers.

The availability of a product on those contracts should not be confused with operational readiness. Emergency communications systems often depend on accurate location databases, reliable network connections and interoperability with an organization’s existing telephony, collaboration and physical-security infrastructure.

Implementation details determine performance

Agencies evaluating the tools will need to test whether location information remains correct as employees move devices, work remotely or use softphones. They should also assess redundancy, cybersecurity, accessibility and the ability to continue operating during power or network disruptions. Notification systems require current contact information and well-defined policies so that alerts reach the right audiences without creating unnecessary confusion.

Interoperability with local 911 authorities can vary by jurisdiction, making coordination and testing essential. A technically successful implementation must also be supported by training, routine exercises and procedures for maintaining data after the initial deployment.

The Intrado-Carahsoft agreement gives agencies another purchasing route for emergency communications technology and groups several related products under the same distribution channel. Its practical value will be determined at the implementation level: accurate locations, dependable routing, effective alerts and tested integration with local public-safety operations.
